Erratum to: Engineering cybernetics: 60 years in the making Erratum to: Control Theory and Technology, 2014, 12(2), 97 -- 109 DOI 10.1007/s11768-014-4031-0 After a typesetting error is corrected, the second paragraph in Section 4 (``The turning point') should read: `` `In the previous chapters we have discussed the design principles of control systems with increasing degrees of generality and complexity. However, one basic assumption was made throughout the treatment: the properties and characteristics of the system to be controlled were always assumed to be known ... . The control design is thus based upon this knowledge of the properties of the system.' [1, p. 214. emphasis added].'
